Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) has cosponsored the Stewardship Contracting Reauthorization and Improvement Act (S. 1300). This legislation will improve the ability of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the Forest Service to collaborate with non-federal partners for important land-management projects, including those that can reduce the risk of wildfire.
“It is vital we remain prepared for what is perhaps the most potent issue we face every summer, catastrophic wildfires. Look no further than the Carpenter 1 and Bison fires that have devastated nearly 52,000 acres to date. Securing every resource necessary and ensuring measures are taken to prevent these fires should be a top priority,” said Senator Dean Heller.
S. 1300 will grant the Forest Service and the BLM reauthorization to enter into contracts with public or private entities to carry out a variety of land-management projects, including those that can reduce the risk of wildland fire.
