(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) issued the following statement regarding his amendment to the Farm Bill (S. 3240). The amendment would ban Members of Congress, their spouses, and immediate family members from benefitting from agricultural programs authorized in the Farm Bill.
“I have long said that serving as an elected official is a privilege that should not be taken lightly. Every effort should be made to ensure that Members do not take advantage of their elected office for financial gain. This amendment is a step in the right direction. It would ensure that Members of Congress are not using taxpayer dollars to benefit themselves. Using the position of elected office for personal gain is unethical and unfair,” said Senator Dean Heller.
