Heller Statement on National Unemployment
(Washington, DC) – Today Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) made the following statement on today’s report from the Department of Labor showing the national unemployment rate rose to 9.1% in May.
“My number one priority in the Senate is to turn our economy around and get Nevadans back to work. Despite claims that the stimulus bill would provide an ‘immediate jolt’ to the economy, our country has now experienced an unemployment rate exceeding 8 percent for 28 straight months. Nearly 2 million jobs have been lost and too many Nevadans continue to struggle since this failed plan passed Congress. Deficit-fueled stimulus, big government programs, and stifling regulations will not lead to economic recovery. It is time that the Administration and Congress focus on real solutions to our economic problems and implement pro-growth policies that will bolster recovery and help create jobs,” said Heller.
