(Washington, D.C.) – Today U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) issued the following statement congratulating Dr. Heath Morrison who was named National Superintendent of the Year. Heller also congratulated Dr. Morrison and Irene Payne, recipients of the Leadership through Communication Award.

“I would like to congratulate Dr. Heath Morrison being named National Superintendent of the Year. His leadership in representing Nevada’s schools has been an inspiration to all and we are fortunate for his service. Ensuring our schools have the resources they need to provide our children with the best education possible is important and with leaders like Morrison we can help our students strive for excellence,” said Senator Dean Heller.

Washoe County School District was also the recipient of the Leadership through Communication Award, which recognizes Dr. Morrison and Irene Payne for their leadership in improving school to parent communication. The graduation rate of Washoe County has increased under their leadership.

“I would also like to congratulate Dr. Heath Morrison and Irene Payne on guiding Washoe County to the Leadership through Communication Award. I admire their desire to uphold high education standards for Nevada. Ensuring our children and grandchildren are prepared to compete in the 21st century is critical for the future of our country,” said Senator Dean Heller.
