(Washington, DC) – United States Senator Dean Heller (R-NV), a key Republican on this important legislation, issued the following statement after the United States Senate passed legislation to reauthorize and extend the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) program:

“From hospitality to tourism to gaming, and everywhere in between, the TRIA extension is a crucial safeguard ensuring Nevada’s prosperity. As a champion and co-author of legislation reauthorizing the TRIA program, I recognize the benefits for future commercial development in bringing a stable and reliable support system for industries in our state in the event of a terrorist attack. Local business owners in Las Vegas and Reno can now focus their attention on growing their businesses and attracting more visitors to our state.”

Heller continued, “I’m equally as excited this legislation is the first to pass both houses of Congress on Capitol Hill. It was a high priority for Nevada, and it deserves to be one of the first bills to become law in the 114th Congress. The level of importance of this legislation to our state cannot be understated. It protects jobs, promotes the Silver State, and keeps families working. That’s why I was disappointed this job was not finished late last year when it easily could have been. However, I’m proud to see years of hard work and determination finally coming to fruition early in this new Congress.”
