Heller Asks Again, “Is This Working?”

Opposes Ineffective, More of the Same Economic Policies

(Washington DC) – Today U.S. Senator Dean Heller (R-NV) voted against another stimulus plan that has failed to get the economy moving. The plan considered on the Senate floor today (S. 1723) includes more of the same ineffective policies that the Administration has repeatedly proposed over the past three years.

“There are those who say that the private sector is doing just fine, but tens of thousands of unemployed Nevadans would disagree. In February 2009 when the first stimulus bill was passed, supporters promised the unemployment rate would not rise above 8 percent. Now Nevada’s unemployment’s rate is 13.4 percent, the highest in the nation. In fact, every time one of these measures has passed, unemployment in Nevada has increased. I ask again, ‘Is this working?’

“More stimulus and more bailouts will not solve our economic problems. We need to chart a new direction and take a comprehensive approach to economic recovery by implementing tax reform, spending reform and regulatory reform. These fundamental changes have to occur so the private sector can grow and Nevadans can get back to work,” said Senator Dean Heller.

The unemployment rate for the entire country is 9.1 percent. Nevada’s unemployment rate is 13.4 percent. For government workers, it is 4.7 percent.
